Volunteers - Making A Difference
The success of The Senior Home Repair Program depends on the individuals who give their time to help. Over 720 hours were donated in 2014, and over 65 individuals benefited from the services of the Program.
From Fall and Spring Cleanups, to roof or furnace replacement and ramps or handrails, our volunteers have cleaned, repaired and built to keep seniors safe in their homes. We are proud to have such an amazing volunteer force. Individuals, local companies and local churches energetically and repeatedly offer their services to help their senior neighbors in Preble County.
The Program is the beneficiary of the Eaton Church of the Brethren’s Second Saturday Project. Every month, the group helps 2-4 seniors with major repair or cleanup jobs. They have donated over 300 hours for seniors in need. Keith Reece, one of the ECOB volunteers, says, “At Eaton Church of the Brethren, we send mission teams and support missionaries around the world. However, we feel supporting Preble County with our time and resources is also a calling from our Lord.
The HIT Foundation Senior Home Repair Program is the perfect partner for our church. This program fills two of our church core values of Connect and Impact. Our dedicated 2nd Saturday team that is anxious each month to provide as many hours as needed to help seniors of our county maintain their homes, be it deck repair, gutter cleaning, leaf raking, or painting. As citizens of Preble County, it is our honor and privilege to support the HIT Foundation. “
The gratitude given — from smiles to hugs, to tears — is a big reason volunteers love giving to the Senior Home Repair Program. It feels great to help someone else in need. Adults and children can volunteer for the program. It’s a wonderful opportunity to start kids on the path to thinking about others, and to give back to their community. Kids can rake, paint, and help clean up yards for seniors, right alongside their parents.
We’re pleased to offer our services to seniors. But we’re also proud to connect our seniors with the individuals in their home towns who want to give back. A warm and heartfelt thank you to all of those who give of themselves, in the midst of busy lives, to give back to others.
